Katie Murken is a visual artist working both in installation and two-dimensional media. Her interest in the book is rooted in the belief that art is moving in a direction of increased accessibility, visibility, and collaboration. Through book works and installed enviroments she attempts to identify new venues and situations for viewing and experiencing art. Katie is currently creating a public art project for the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education in Philadelphia, PA. Through a collaboration with the design and branding firm P’unk Avenue the project sets out to explore the relationship between technology and the natural environment. The exhibition, entitled Green Machine, will open in April of 2007. Information will be available at www.InLiquid.com.

For She is Time:

A new artist book by Katie Murken

For She is Time is the first in a suite of hand-printed books. The duet originates in a crafted myth and presents this elemental tale over 11 pages of metamorphic unfolding. To the rhythm of a textual score, For She is Time introduces a world of cause, effect, and disappearance. Inside of this book there rests a land where the forces of nature shape reality and human presence is seated among the things of the world and not above them. The harmony of this lyric poem is complete only when accompanies by the music of your vast imagination.

The book For She is Time is printed in woodcut, silkscreen, and letterpress on Bugra paper, bound in the accordion style by Katie Murken. Consisting of 11 page spreads, the book measures 11” x 10.5” x 1” and is printed in an edition of 35. This book can be purchased for $400.
